Los Banditos Restaurant in Ulaanbaatar |
Los Banditos is an over-priced Indian/Mexican resturant slightly out of the centre of Ulaanbaatar. Hard to find, but worth the trek.
The food is over-priced, but very good. The Indian curry is spot on, no surprise seeing as there are Indian cooks working there!
The menu also includes European food and fish and chips.
Overall a nice restaurant with friendly service, but the price is off-putting, and probably the reason that most Mongolians don't eat there. A meal there will generally cost about 11,000₮, which is well above the average of about 6,000₮.
It's definitely a place to check out for the inquisitive traveller and curry connoisseur.

California's Restaurant in Ulaanbaatar |
California's is a typical Cali-esque restaurant serving the usual burgers and milk-shakes. They also have some Asian cuisine including a few Mongolian specialties revisited for the modern palate. The decor brings you back to the USA and the terrace on Seoul Street makes for a pleasant lunch in the afternoon. The Caesar salad and the baby spinach salad come highly recommended and so do most of the delisous pasta dishes.
The restaurant also has a small selection of sushi dishes, but make sure to ask when the fish arrived in Mongolia, because fish in the country is pretty dubious to say the least. The open kitchen at the back makes for entertainment when all else fails. The staff are pleasant and efficient. The wines are too expensive but they serve a wide variety of American spirits and some shakes. The restaurant can be found after the Marco Polo restaurant on Seoul Street, opposite the Aeroflot office.

Dave's Place in Ulaanbaatar |
What would Mongolia be without Dave's Place? The one and only real British pub in Mongolia. Located right on Sukhbaatar Square, it has all the ingredients for a perfect evening. A large terrace overlooking the square (especially lovely in the warm summer evenings), beers exclusive to the pub, Thursday night quizzes, real fish and chips, all day full English breakfast . What more could you want?
Dave will look after you like a true pub landlord and make you feel welcome in the second British Embassy of UB. It is a regular haunt of the local expat community, even in the depths of the frozen winters, huddled downstairs on the red and green sofas. Dave has a large selection of British foods, British music, British spirits and British customers. Packed in summer with its outside bar, it has parking facilities, good security, and the staff are very friendly and professional. Dave's is also the end destination of the Mongol Rally car race from London to Ulaanbaatar in the summer, and it's always a pleasure to watch the survivors having their first good drink since London. That's after they've changed their money into Tugrugs!

Chinggis Pub and Restaurant In Ulaanbaatar |
As you walk into the bar of the pub, it is hard to believe that you still are in Mongolia and not in the middle of the Bavarian Alps. This is the brewery for one of Mongolia's most popular beers, Chinggis. The Chinggis beer has been brewed continually on this site since 1998. There are windows in the pub so you can look through to the brewery and see the authentic nature and that it is indeed brewed on site. They serve some of the best steaks in the country and offer a good atmosphere in the evenings. They are also the only pub in the country to have the giraffe beer containers so that you can be your own barman. Located in the north of the city near the ger districts.

This excellent restaurant, situated in the tranquility of the Children's Park, has magnificent views over the park and the mountains. It boasts
really decent Korean food and has grills and hot plates at your table so you can cook your

Khan Brau Restaurant and Biergarden in Ulaanbaatar |
The one and only real beer garden in Mongolia, serving simply the best beer in the country, Khan Brau, and the elusive Khan Brau Dark. Overlooking the national theatre next to Sukhbaatar Square it is the place to be over the summer months. Take in the sunshine, drink in the Mongolian brewed German beers, and if you are really nice Klaus the owner might come and share a glass with you. The beer garden also serves real German food, plays good music, and has a band to while away the hours of the night with.

Le Bistrot Francais in Ulaanbaatar |
The one and only REAL French bistrot managed by a real Frenchman in Ulaanbaatar! Guy is an endless source of knowledge and inspiration about Mongolia. The food is as good as on the streets of Paris and the outdoor terrace is as good as any on the Champs Elysees. They serve arguably the best espressos in town and offer a wide collection of French wines, pastries and dishes. Recommended to any Frenchmen who is a little homesick, and to those who want quality French food or just a good coffee with the students from the University of Ulaanbaatar, just opposite the Bistrot.

Casablanca Restaurant in Ulaanbaatar |
This restaurant is a favourite with the miners back from the Gobi Desert. It
serves a good menu of Singaporean and Western foods with pretty fast
service. The restaurant is often very busy in the evenings, when you could
nearly believe that you were really in Rick's Place. Its dishes are
affordable and easy to choose from its picture menu. Great service and
the
best cheeseburgers in UB.

Le Soleil Restaurant In Ulaanbaatar |
This excellent restaurant at the top of the Narantuul Hotel offers extraordinary
views over the city. The food is excellent and the service well intentioned. This is definitely one of the classiest restaurants in the city, a favourite for important lunches and dinners. The food is mainly European in its inspiration and the decor simply breathtaking, especially at night.

Grand Khan Irish Pub and Restaurant in Ulaanbaatar |
The Irish Pub by the National Theatre is one of the better known drinking landmarks of UB, if only for its gigantic size, and its complete lack of relevance to anything Irish, bar the Guinness
and Irish food available in the large drinking hall. In summer the outside terraces make it a favourite meeting place with the well to do locals. Bands go on stage most evenings while the local girls dance through the night on the dance floor.
It is a really nice place, and in the summer it's packed with Mongolians and foreigners alike. A definite must. The food is a little over-priced and lacking in quality though.

Michele's Bakery in Ulaanbaatar |
A small but delicious bakery between the State Department Store and the circus which will fill you with memories of France with its warm pains aux chocolats, apple croissants and strong espressos. Alex, the owner, will tell you tales of his native France while you try to decide which one of the baguettes you should have. Perfect for breakfast every morning and every other time in between.

The Marco Polo Restaurant in Ulaanbaatar |
Marco Polo restaurant is an excellent Italian restaurant, actually the best in Mongolia. It has all the usual Italian cuisine: pizza, pasta, calzone, steaks and a few others, which are very good and very reasonably priced. The outside terrace is delightful in summer and the owner is always availble to have a quick chat over a glass of vino. The interior decor is a bit heavy and kitsch but has some interesting artifacts from Mongolia. A definite must for anyone keen on Italian cuisine.

Millies Restaurant in Ulaanbaatar |
An expat restaurant by definition, Millies is the perfect meeting place for the local expat community whether at lunch or over dinner. In its central location overlooking the Choijin Lama Museum between the Children's Park and Sukhbaatar Square, there really is no other place to go for lunch. The food is American style with many different global influences, and large sandwiches and good specials are always available.

BD's BBQ restaurant in Ulaanbaatar |
One of the institutions of Ulaanbaatar, this is the best place to go if really hungry as it's an all you can eat buffet. BD's Mongolian BBQ is often full and the quality of the food is good and consistent. BD's BBQ is based on the old Mongolian cooking technique, thinly sliced lamb meat cooked in an overturned shield and served hot. The modern version is a large buffet full of cold meats, vegetables, sauces and other yummy stuff, which you mix all together give to the man next to the grill, who cooks it and gives it back to you. Highly recommended and family friendly. I think on my last visit I got through three large plates! If anyone has a better record, do get in touch.
