Peace Bridge Hotel / 3 stars / 70USD to 92USD per night |
The Peace Bridge Hotel is a modern'ish hotel in Ulaanbaatar, not quite in the city centre, about 25 minutes walk to Sukhbaatar Square, you can always get a cheap taxis however, it's not bad in its prestations, comfortable modern rooms, a variety of bars (including a strip bar) restaurants and small shops. It has a small business centre and some of the staff speak some English. Again popular with tour groups and the like. Not a first choice hotel but a respectable third choice if you have to.

The Continental Hotel / 2-3 stars / 80USD to 160USD per night |

The Continental Hotel was designed to look like a European Palace by someone who has never seen one. It is quite well located in the embassy district of Ulaanbaatar but sadly tries to be something which it isn't. A luxury hotel. It is a descent hotel, not too expensive and quite clean, the rooms are non-descript modern the lobby is dark and gloomy and the food not the best in town. It is never the less one of the favourite hotels of Ulaanbaatar as slightly cheaper than the big ones, is well situated and clean. Diplomats and well to do tourists are known to be staying from time to time. The service is very much like the rest of the building, they pretend well but have no substance behind it. A fun experience in keeping with the adventurous feel of Mongolia.

Sunjin Grand Hotel Room Prices from 109 USD to 248USD per night |

This brand new hotel is located closer to Russia then it is to Ulaanbaatar, surrounded by the Ger district of Ulaanbaatar it is not a recommended choice and only to be used if you intend on staying within the walls of the hotel. The inside of the hotel is a modern non-descript Asia luxury hotel, grand marble reception, receptionists who barely speak English, overpriced restaurant and most of the hotel is still shut off as not yet completed (true as of July 2007). It is possible that in a few decades the city will move to the surroundings of the hotel but at the moment it is too far to be attractive. The website is a little confusing for its own good, edging style over substance, and often missing out key information. It is never the less the most modern hotel in town and if you do value comfort and known quality then this might be a good choice. There is a bar in the lobby area which is also very expensive but some young Mongolians groups do come and play in the evenings. The hotel was built by Koreans for Koreans so predictably filled with busses of Korean tourists sporting golfing jumpers and Korean Air caps.

Edelweiss Hotel / 2 stars / 60USD to 182USD per night |
The Edelweiss Hotel is a small hotel near the Korean Embassy not too far from the Continental Hotel. It is one of the authors favourite hotels as it is clean, tidy, unpretentious, affordable and the staff is friendly. 5 to 10 minutes walk to Sukhbaatar Square. The hotel looks a bit like a German motorway motel and while it will not suprise you by its originality or comfort neither will it disapoint you. It is a simple hotel with simple prestations but in a sense it is better than the big hotels which are going to give you the same thing with more fuss and charge you more. The hotel is hard to find down little alley ways. The food is not memorable but rather edible with hearty breakfasts in the mornings.
